RE:SOURCE Exhibition

“Sources” is an immersive exhibition that delves deeply into the pressing theme of the climate emergency, simultaneously examining its impacts on local landscapes while connecting them to global ecological narratives. Serving as a creative extension of the themes explored in Track 2 of the RE:SOURCE conference, ‘Climate Actions, Environment, and Public Humanities’ this exhibition transcends conventional artistic boundaries by interweaving visual aesthetics with sound and interaction.

The featured artists have ingeniously responded to the urgent call of our times, skilfully channelling their creative energies into evocative works that both captivate and compel. Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau‘s animation, a new commission created especially for this occasion, presents extracts of historic paintings and motives photographed in Venice, as they float and disappear into a generative water landscape. Tamiko Thiel‘s interactive AR installation takes you on a surreal journey, weaving together the real and the virtual, transporting you to realms where the consequences of climate change are rendered inescapably tangible. Claudia Robles-Angel‘s sound and light installation challenges your perception of sound and space, immersing you in auditory landscapes that echo the intricate symphony of nature. Luz Maria Sanchez, Frank Ekeberg, Robertina Šebjanič, and Lena Ortega contribute their distinctive voices, each offering a unique interpretation of the natural world. Through their art, they prompt us to re-evaluate our relationship with the planet, to see its resources not as commodities to be consumed but as treasures to be safeguarded.

As visitors explore the exhibition’s amalgamation of participatory visual aesthetics, dynamic soundscapes and interactive installations, they are invited to embark on a transformative journey. A journey that not only broadens their artistic horizons but also deepens their understanding of the intertwined destinies of humanity and the planet. “Sources” challenges us to rethink, reimagine and recommit to the safeguarding of our planet, inspiring us all to become catalysts for positive change in the face of the ever-pressing climate emergency.

As part of “Sources”, and connecting to Track 3 of the RE:SOURCE conference (‘Pioneers of Media Art’), the tribute exhibition ‘Icône 2020’ stands as a celebration of the remarkable legacy of generative artist Vera Molnar. ‘Icône 2020’ honours Molnar’s pioneering spirit, offering visitors a profound glimpse into the captivating world of generative art. With a curated collection of Molnar’s unique glassworks from 2020, produced in collaboration with Francesca Franco and New Murano Gallery, the exhibition pays homage to Molnar’s innovative use of algorithms to create mesmerizing and ever-evolving visual compositions. Visitors of ‘Icône 2020’ are invited to traverse the intricate dance between creativity and computation that Molnar so brilliantly orchestrated. This tribute not only commemorates a visionary artist but also highlights the enduring influence of her work on the evolving landscape of contemporary art and its symbiotic relationship with technology.
